Carol Regehr

RCHS Bookkeeper

Carol Regehr

Carol was born and raised in Salina, Kansas. She earned a B.A. in Mathematics at Sterling College in Kansas in 1977, then proceeded to the University of Kansas where she earned an M.A. in Mathematics and an M.A. in Soviet and East European Area Studies. As part of her Area Studies degree, she spent a summer studying Russian language in (then-named) Leningrad. Carol is interested in a broad range of study areas including literature, philosophy, history, and language, so an Area Studies degree suited her to a T.

Later, Carol expanded her science/philosophy interest to Physics, and earned an M.S. in Physics at Kansas State University in 1985, with a thesis on a topic in Quantum Logic. In 2016, she earned a B.S. in Accounting at Kansas State University. She is treasurer for Manhattan’s Polly Ogden Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Carol has worked on her own family history/genealogy for many years and helped others to do so. She is especially enthused about the use of DNA for research goals in genealogy. She has been a volunteer for the Riley County Genealogical Society and also assisted in translating a midwife’s records from Croatian to English from the early 1900s for publication by the RCGS.

Carol retired from teaching Engineering Physics Laboratory at KSU in 2022. In her spare time, she and her husband Lowell enjoy traveling and reading. Carol also enjoys fiber arts such as knitting, weaving, and spinning, and puzzles such as Sudoku. She has entered the national Sudoku competition for several years, with a personal best finish of 44th.

She feels privileged to work for the Riley County Historical Society, as it encompasses so many of her interests.
